Resettlement of Marte Community, Second batch evacuated From Bakassi IDP Camp to Marte town,

Returnees received Cash, food and non food items
Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum had on Monday 6th October 2020 inaugurated two committees to complete ongoing reconstruction works and facilitate the full restoration of civil authority comprising policemen, civilian JTF, local government officials and magistrate courts in six towns located in Marte and Gwoza local government areas.
The Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) who is chairing the Marte Resettlement Committee had on 30th November in company of the Borno State Deputy Governor HE Hon Umar Kadafur, the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice Barr Kaka Shehu lawan , Engr Bukar Talba Commissioner for agriculture and Hon Sugun Mai Mele Commissioner for LGs and Emirates Affairs with Brig Gen Ishaq of the theatre Command operation lafiya Dole resettled 500 Households to Marte town to disburse cash , food and emergency relief to 500 households which amount to 2870 returnees.
So also today 2nd January 2020 , the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) Engr Mustapha Gubio led the Committee of Marte resettlement to moved another 200 Households to Marte town as part of Governor Zulum’s resettlement process .
Similarly on the Marte Resettlement, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum had on 12th July transvers Marte Community and made a case for the return of Garade community in Marte local government area, he had series of consultation with stakeholders to facilitate quick return. In an effort to fast track the resettlement of IDPs to their communities, Borno Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Monday, 1st June, 2020, returned to Marte Local Government Area.
Zulum had on 30th November, 2019, and 23 March, 2020, visited Marte where he made a case for the return of the internally displaced persons (IDPs). In addition, Zulum also made efforts to explore how major irrigation farming activities of the Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) could be restored by July, this year.
Zulum had, after a request to the Managing Director, Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) on his earlier visit, ordered rehabilitation of 500 housing estate belonging to the CBDA that when rebuilt, the houses will provide temporary shelters to displaced persons willing to return to New Marte, even though their communities in different parts of larger Marte Local Government Area, will also be rebuilt for their permanent occupation.
The Marte committee, which is Chaired by the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) Engr Mustapha Gubio, Co-chairman Engr Gambomi Marte and others stakeholders which have security officials amongst members, has undertook reconstruction and resettlement at Marte in northern Borno, after all safety measures and essential public services are put in place.
The committee has rehabilitated and reconstructed private and public buildings in Marte, also undertake palliative repairs of Marte road in collaboration with the men of the Nigerian Army, so as to put in place all requirements that will ensure safety of lives and properties of returnees and has facilitated the establishment of civil authorities in Marte town. The Committee has also identify IDPs willing to return home and has address any other matter that is incidental to the smooth return and safety of lives and properties of the returnees
The Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) explained that Borno’s resettlement drive is aimed at helping citizens pick up the pieces of their lives and move on, after many years of displacement. Furthermore said, the Governor assured that Government will help the returnees to engage in agricultural and other economic activities that will make them self-reliant and be meaningful members of the State.
Engr Gubio also decried the high level of poverty in Borno, particularly within the IDPs, which he said the insurgents took advantage of, to recruit a lot of able bodied youths in the state. Governor Zulum said during the inauguration that he was very mindful of the security situation in the state.
Engr Gubio, the RRR commissioner, assured they have put in their best in discharging the assignment and has assured to put all public and private buildings in place. Also announced that the Governor directed the committee to liase with the Nigerian military to see the possibilities of returning people to Mairari and Kareto in Northern part of Borno.
